Kate Rusby – The Girl Who Couldn’t Fly
Excellent album that mixes traditional folk with Kate's own songs; it’s all beautifully arranged and performed and Kate's voice is still the main point of focus for the listener, but the backing from her own guitar and a wide range of well known guests is equally memorable. The line between traditional folk and contemporary tracks is blurred as it's almost impossible to tell them apart, and her own songs, perhaps for the first time on an album, compare well with the older material. Highlights include ‘Mary Blaize’, ‘Game of All Fours’ and the bonus track ‘Little Track Frost’ which is a charming self written piece to be used for a TV animation.
'The Girl Who Couldn't Fly' is a strong album, and probably her best disc since the exceptional 'Hourglass' – not to be missed.
