Chuck Brodsky – Subtotal Eclipse

Over the past 12 years or so of Fish Records we’ve carried all of Chuck’s albums, he’s one of the very finest of all the modern singer/songwriters and creates songs and stories as vivid and affecting as his contemporaries Chris Wood and Richard Shindell.

He presents his songs with real insight, humour and sensitivity and draws almost all of his material from real characters and stories that cover a huge amount of ground.  Here he takes the listener on a journey, from the powerful and hugely affecting story of Lili Hirsch (‘Lili’s Braids’), to a lovely study of how attitudes to life have changed (‘William Henry Paddle’), and he includes a trio of his trademark baseball songs that take a look at the characters and history in the sport.

His gentle delivery and distinctive guitar playing give him a sound all of his own, and all his songs are full of great melodies and hooks – it makes them all instantly engaging.

Striking songs that cover a whole range of political and social situations, and all presented with real charm, not to be missed.
