Abigail Washburn And The Sparrow Quartet

Abigail Washburn had a previous Rounder career with Uncle Earl (an all-girl collective of Old Time String players) with whom she recorded two albums, the latter being produced by John Paul Jones (Led Zeppelin).

Simultaneously, as a solo artist signed to Nettwek; the Sparrow Quartet (featuring Bela Fleck) was formed. Abigail performed on the Rounder 40th Anniversary show with Bela Fleck. It is as a solo artist, she is back with Rounder again to release her second solo album, recorded with producer Tucker Martine. As an artist/singer/musician, she has travelled extensively in all these guises and has a genuine, rare talent as a female clawhammer banjo player, an extraordinary connection with China and also a writing talent with strong messages.

"A daring, definite talent, whose feel for the folk idiom results in moving material. Soulful is the word." Wall Street Journal

"Washburn stomped and skipped through fiery Appalachian takes on the local songs of Sichuan. Her bilingualism's no gimmick; she nails the dips and peaks of pitch while leading her band in scorching variations on simple, repetitive traditional melodies…” L.A. Times
