Winterpills are a 4 piece band consisting of Philip Price, Flora Reed, Dave Hower and Dennis Crommett; they mix contemporary acoustic folk songs with pop influences and a good degree of inventiveness.
This is an album with a relaxed feel, and throughout the disc there’s a distinctly natural, organic air to the songs and much of this is down to the combined vocals of Price and Reed. Both singers have distinctively warm voices but the two of them singing together, as they do throughout most of the disc, combine to create a beautifully rich sound that floats over and around the instrumental backing.
The tracks range from dreamy, melody rich pop influenced tracks through to delicate acoustic pieces and the continuity of the disc is held together by the vocals and some excellent, distinct percussion work from Dave Hower.
This is an individual collection of lush, melodic, and intelligent songs that are beautifully performed and produced. A little off our usual beaten track it may be, but this is a memorable collection with broad appeal and an album well worth investigating.
