Tanya's previous album, 'Town to Town', was featured in our first ever mailer, and after a long wait the follow up is finally here, and it's an equally strong collection.
Her writing and performing is deeply rooted in the heart of America - it's present in her musical style, but especially so in her lyrics, she writes of distinct people and locations, and create a superb feeling of place and character detail.
Although a contemporary singer/songwriter, her musical style is fairly conservative, mainly acoustic guitar and piano based, augmented by fiddle, mandolin, and dobro - it falls somewhere inbetween folk, country and bluegrass, and is incredibly easy to listen to.
Full of details and finesse in both the lyricism and musical execution, the eleven songs are easy to enjoy as both a 'casual' listen, as well as rewarding a 'serious' listening session.
The musicians are all extremely accomplished, with the highlights being some excellent performances on dobro and mandolin from Wanda Vick, and vocal contributions from Kate Campbell and Claire Lynch.
'Where We Live' could easily be described as a postcard reflecting 'real' America, and works on both a musical and a lyrically level. An intelligent and interesting disc.
