Peter was once described to me as 'no hummer & strummer'; this concise definition says more about his music than you'd think. He presents edgy singer/songwriter acoustic based songs in a variety of styles, and his voice and guitar style certainly makes you sit up and take notice.
He is a superb guitar player, and his rhythmic playing and vocal delivery drive many of the tracks on the album (to the extent that some songs have no drums or percussion, and you barely notice they're missing). There is a real mix of styles amongst the 11 tracks, with folk, blues and roots influences all showing their hand throughout the songs. The one constant is his expressive vocals and razor sharp lyrics; they fuse together with the mainly acoustic songs to create musically dynamic tracks with intelligent lyrics.
Vocal assistance is provided by Jennifer Kimball & Chris Smither, they both compliment Peter's voice perfectly (especially on the superb title track where Kimball's vocals add depth). Peter is one of the masses of established, but vastly underrated singer/songwriters, but he has so much more to offer than most. This disc is individual, honest, exciting and refreshing - an excellent album for those looking to broaden their horizons.
