This album was a real revelation for Fish Records - we had mixed feelings when it arrived through the door; one listen to the disc was enough to change our indifference. This CD is a 'real' country/bluegrass album, it's not overproduced pop, but a collection of excellent songs played and produced in sympathy with their roots. The mixture of traditional, covers and self-written songs provide variety throughout the 13 tracks, shifting from folk narrative in "Silver Dagger" to a Billy Joel cover "Travelin' Again". The musicians on the disc are incredibly talented - the band list Jerry Douglas, Sam Bush, and Stuart Duncan in their line up, and there's vocal assistance from Alison Krauss and Patty Loveless. Dolly's voice is perfect for this less produced style - full of energy, soul and effortless emotion; the picking, fiddle and Dolly's vocals gel together well creating a great sound. Approach this album with an open mind and you'll end up with one of the best releases of 1999. "...forget the image - the music speaks volumes..."
