While Mulvey's previous albums have all included a cover or two, this disc is all songs written and made famous by others, and the range stretches from the traditional 'Rain & Snow' to The Beatles 'For No One', stopping of at all points in-between.
Although the songs are familiar, this disc has a real twist - it was recorded live on the stations of the Boston subway, and the recording is excellent, everything is pin sharp and the ambience and sounds of the subway are all present, and they add a tremendous amount to the tracks, especially on Dar Williams' 'The Ocean' which ends in a glorious amalgam of guitar, vocals, and the sounds of arriving trains.
He's joined by a good number of guests including Erin McKeown, Chris Smither, & Jennifer Kimball, and they create some superb moments - it must have been a fine sight seeing the sessions in full flow.
'Ten Thousand Mornings' is a fascinating concept album with some exceptional highlights, Costello's 'Oliver's Army' and Gaye's 'Inner City Blues' are both big stand outs.
