Toronto based singer/songwriter Jory Nash's second release picks up where his excellent debut album left off and develops his acoustic sound further. Nash's smooth Paul Simon-esque voice is on top form here, but this release has more dynamics and musical sophistication than his earlier disc. He uses backing vocals, Hammond organ, a myriad of guitars (and even a Jew's harp) intelligently, creating a relaxed, detailed and engaging sound. The album has laid back feel - it's smooth, polished and well produced, the varied instrument layers add character and depth to the subtle melodies. The 13 songs draw on a mixture of styles, but all fit perfectly together creating a varied and interesting acoustic backdrop to Jory's fine lyrics and vocals. Jory is an independent artist who controls all aspects of his musical productions, and is gaining a reputation based solely on ability and sheer hard work rather than publicity and hype.
He is obviously going to break through and become more widely known in the future and 'Tangle With The Ghost' represents a good solid album that fans of acoustic singer/songwriters will enjoy.
