Phew! - complicated title for such a beautifully simple and understated album; Suzzy (of the Roche Sisters) presents some of the most unpretentious 'real life' songs you're likely to hear. It's a restrained, acoustic album with the emphasis on the lyrics and subject matter rather than overblown production. That's not to say that the quality of the musicians doesn't shine through though, with Loudon Wainwright, Jules Shear, Steuart Smith and Curtis Stigers amongst the contributors you'd expect it to be excellent - it doesn't disappoint.
Suzzy has a very clear and clean voice, and is a great storyteller; the songs of day-to-day experiences come across as though she's just relaying the stories on a one to one basis ('To Alaska With Love' sounds like idle gossip between friends - it makes for an unforgettable song).
There's much to enjoy on this disc, the excellent musicians, subtle production and especially the relaxed feel to the whole album. It makes it difficult to pick highlights, but 'To Alaksa With Love' and 'Goodbye Cruel World' sum up the quality and feel of the disc perfectly.
"…brilliant singer/songwriter with a carefully produced set of folksy songs…"
