Following on from last years purely acoustic disc 'Little Lion', Brooks' new disc is a return to a mixture of his singer/songwriter material and instrumental tracks. It's this balance that brings all his talents to the fore, he is an excellent songwriter but also a superb writer and arranger of instrumental guitar pieces.
As ever, it's Brooks' fingerstyle guitar work that stands out, playing steel & acoustic stringed acoustics, along with the occasional electric guitar provides variety and highlights his musical abilities.
The instrumental and song combination works well and the disc has good pace - it flows easily from start to finish, and the 11 tracks (42 mins) pass by quickly.
'Skiffle Bop' is Brooks' third disc we've covered in the last 2 years; all 3 discs are excellent and show that he is a consistent performer regardless of the style of the discs he releases.
