Although independently released in their native Australia two years ago, they have steadily been making a name for themselves on the festival circuit in the US over the past few years, and this, their third album has now been released in the UK. The Waifs are a contemporary trio (two sisters, Vikki and Donna Simpson, and Josh Cunningham), the music is acoustic based folk/pop, with a fantastic 'fresh' feel - it's light and airy, full of instantly likeable melodies, has some excellent harmonies (all sung in their natural accent), and is a great example of contemporary, creative songwriting.
'Sink or Swim' is perfect summer listening; infectious pop/folk that everyone would enjoy, but with lyrical and musical depth to make it stand out from the crowd - really enjoyable and a disc, and band that deserve to find real success over here, and beyond.
