The title may raise an eyebrow and bring about the odd smirk, but that's just about where the levity ends as 'S & M Communion Bread' is a pretty serious album, it's not all bleak but it's certainly occasionally dark in tone.
Over the past 5 years Stacey's voice has changed, gone are much of the 'girlish' vocals from her earlier albums and she's developed into a more accomplished and versatile singer - there's still an element of youth and vulnerability, but it's a different instrument from that on her 1999 debut.
Stacey takes on most of the lead vocal duties, although a few songs are lead by Mark and they sing together on most choruses throughout the disc - their differing voices work well together and add a layer of sentiment and feeling that bring the songs to life.
This is another excellent album from Stacey and Mark, the instrumentation is fairly spare but appropriate for the subject matter and overall feel of the disc.
