As one of the finest songwriter's of his generation, Randy Newman's songs are famous for their scathing and insightful edge and wit combined with a sharp turn of phrase. This stunning disc gives some of the biggest and best names in country/folk the chance to put their own mark on some memorable songs. There are some brilliant performances here, from The Duhks take on 'Political Science' is excellent (25 years on this satirical song still hits the mark) to Sonny Landreth's memorable reading of 'Louisiana 1927'.
This album contains some superb songs with great melodies and lyrical depth - highly recommended.
