With the release of Prodigal Son, Martin Simpson created a contemporary classic album that effortlessly crossed many boundaries and exhibited what many had known for years – that he is one of this generation’s most talented songwriters, singers and guitarists.
On this DVD all the standout tracks from that album are beautifully recreated in front of an appreciative audience at the Union Chapel, London. The songs highlight both Martin’s virtuoso playing and also the quality of his collaborative work as he is joined by a small but superb band of musicians made up of Andy Cutting, Andy Stewart and Kellie While.
As an added bonus there is a unique short film made by Martin called ‘You Can Go Home’, where he retraces the steps of his youth under the shadows of the blast furnaces in his native Scunthorpe. It’s a revealing and at times light-hearted glance back at what brought this fantastic performer from the folk clubs of Lincolnshire to one of the most highly regarded artists on the UK music scene.
