Originally released in 1980, this album has aged well - the passing years have not diminshed the quality of Nic's guitar playing or his interpretations of the songs. His readings of the traditional tracks are exceptional, he had the ability to make them sound as though they are contemporary tracks that very much belonged to him (a skill which John Wesley Harding paid homage to with his 'Trad. Arr Jones' release). Penguin Eggs is widely, and rightly, acknowledged as his best release, and stands as one of the albums that is still influencing folk music today. An essential album.
