Mindy’s superb debut album ‘One Moment More’ was universally well received and marked her out as a folk/country singer/songwriter to watch, but it also came with the fear that her follow up disc may see her just becoming another over-produced country artist. Thankfully, this isn’t the case, and ‘Long Island Shores’ is, if anything, a little more laid back and acoustic in feel; and this approach suits her open, honest writing and beautifully crystalline vocals perfectly. The direct and intimate lyrics show her to be confident and experienced, despite her relatively short time as a prominent singer/songwriter. The highlights come from the more emotional songs, the heartrending title track and the superb ‘Peace of Mind’ are examples of confessional songwriting of the highest order.
Her own acoustic guitar work is delicate and detailed, but she has great set of musicians with her including Buddy Miller who plays throughout the disc as well as performing a duet on ‘What if the World Stops Turning’.
Great songs backed with a strong group and stunning vocals, it’s certainly an alluring combination and for those looking for a warm singer/songwriter disc, this is an album that will deliver time and time again.
