The majority of our singer/songwriter stock is from US artists, with few discs from British performers, mainly because the US is more sympathetic to the genre. With this excellent new album, Pete Morton addresses the balance, and more importantly has produced an album with a refreshingly British slant.
The 11 songs are mainly snippets of modern life, a social commentary on contemporary Britain - be it positive or negative. 'Twitching Net Curtains' relates to greed and the lottery culture, while 'Battle of Trafalgar' is the tale of a normal evening in a pub, and contains the great line "…they'll never clone people like this in a million years…"
Pete is an excellent story teller, and the musical accompaniment does justice to his lyrics and delivery - the band contain Andy Cutting, Tom McConnville and Julie Murphy, and the songs although contemporary, have a nod to the tradition in the instrumentation used.
'Hunting the Heart' is a disc with soul, the songs are human and full of character - the album and is littered with references that everyone can relate to, and will raise a smile of both humour and acknowledgement as the 53 minutes pass by.
