This wistful but optimistic collection of 11 songs show Peters’ at her best with fully rounded characters and mature settings and situations for the narrative.  Her warm and full bodied vocals are reined in a little here, and it gives the album a genuine intimate quality that suits the lyrics perfectly.

She brings together a fantastic band including Will Kimbrough, Rodney Crowell (who sings a fantastic duet on the disc), Kim Richey, and it’s all held together by the rhythm section from Robert Plant’s Band of Joy.
