While these two giants of the English Folk scene have recorded many tracks independently and together over the years, the mother and daughter partnership have never recorded a full duo disc.  Gift is the first full duo album from these multi award winning artists, who while most obviously rooted in English Folk have much broader tastes, and this disc reflects this as it covers traditional folk classics through to old-time American folk to more contemporary songs, taking in some interesting arrangements along the way.
Bringing a range of songs together from varying backgrounds gives the 11 track album a real variety that makes this an album that delivers on a range of levels, and no matter what the origin of the songs they pair bring them to life with their distinct vocals.
While both great singers of songs, and their voices are front and centre across the album, there are some superb musicians providing support throughout with Martin Simpson, Danny Thompson, Martin Carthy, Saul Rose and Oliver Knight all adding instrumental colour.
‘Gift’ is a progressive and memorable album of well chosen songs from a variety of traditions and sources, and the result is a collection of the highest quality throughout.
