Subtitled 'a taste of Sugar Hill's Texas singer/songwriters', this great album feature 14 songs from 10 different artists from the Sugar Hill label, and attempts to paint a representative picture of the variety of styles utilised by the writers from Texas.
Trying to pin this eclectic group of artists down to one musical genre is almost impossible, there are troubadour ballads, roots based rockers, and honky tong styles all on display here, but the one thing they all have in common is the quality of the writing - every single song is an impressive example of the contemporary singer/songwriters art. This is a brilliant collection that includes tracks from Robert Earl Keen, Townes van Zandt, Rodney Crowell, Terry Allen, and Guy Clark amongst the 14 songs. Those who enjoy singer/songwriters from the North East of America, but have little knowledge of the output from the Texan songwriting hub, will find much to surprise them, and enjoy on this album.
