An excellent budget priced double CD set that introduces songs from some of the finest young folk and singer/songwriters on the British folk scene.
Taking its brief roughly from the BBC Folk Horizon Award in that the artists are all under 30 and in some way related to the folk tradition, this collection goes far beyond the award’s four nominees and casts the net across a wider pool of artists.
Covering 23 artists gives the album the chance to cover a broad range of talent, and the collection’s strength is the fact that it has tracks from the already established names, including a superb track from the upcoming Mawkin Causley album and songs from Ruth Notman and Bella Hardy. The real fun of the disc is in finding new names, and those who don’t already know artists such as Rosie Doonan, Jenna Reid and Ruth Theodore are in for a real treat.As a budget priced double CD, this collection represents great value and the perfect introduction to the best of Britain’s young artists.
