Distillation follows two hugely successful cassette releases, but this is Erin's first CD and it is definitely the release to launch her into a wider market, and to the recognition she deserves.
She has a percussive guitar style that really suits the adventurous mix of 11 songs on the disc; folk, blues, jazz and Tin Pan Alley are just four of the genres explored here. She is an imaginative and unbound artist and difficult to categorise, the most logical comparisons are with Michelle Shocked, KD Lang and Rickie Lee Jones.
Her voice is as distinctive as the music, it's pure and clear and the fun she is obviously having shines through - the clarity of her vocals also mean that the lyrics are crystal clear, not one word is wasted.
'Distillation' is a distinctive, individual and charismatic album that offers many surprises and some real high points, the insistent 'La Petite Mort' is the best of a very good bunch - a brilliant track with a chorus that will stay with you for an age (currently 4 months and counting here!).
