It's almost three years since Greg's last studio recording; this album sees him returning on top form. Covenant is the latest in a long line of high quality folk/blues discs from Brown - but this disc has a more acoustic feel than his previous albums.
The guitar playing of Brown and producer Bo Ramsey is as fantastic as ever - subtle, rhythmic and elegant, it provides the ideal setting his deep, rich and individual voice.
But it's not the vocals or the guitar work that's the focus here - the lyrics are excellent, full of the twists and turns of everyday life, closely observed details, insights and wry humour.
