There's little debate that Chris is one of England's most important singer/songwriters; he may not be the most prominent artist in the media, or one who courts the press, but his thoughtful approach to songwriting, the quality and consistency of his work, and his obvious love of the English tradition make him a compelling artist.
The superb double CD anthology has been hand-picked by Chris, who worked through his published work and selected 21 tracks that represent all aspects of his varied career to date.
All 21 tracks have been remastered, and the tracks come from Chris' many R.U.F Records albums and includes unreleased gem ‘The Farmer’, alongside recordings with Karine Polwart, Martin Carthy, The Imagined Village, Eliza Carthy, Karen Tweed and Andy Cutting.
Not only is the quality of the material consistently excellent, the accompanying 20 page booklet is a real joy, with comments from Chris on each track, alongside introductions/observations/comments from a range of people Chris has worked with.
A stunning collection – essential listening.
