Catie is a singer/songwriter who is often compared to Shawn Colvin and Mary Chapin Carpenter, but on this, her third album, she shows that she deserves to be taken on her own merit. She has teamed up with an excellent band and a great producer to deliver her best album by far. Catie's voice is distinctive - warm, clear and emotive, she delivers her raw and intense lyrics perfectly, and she sounds equally at home on both acoustic and the fuller band numbers. Musically, the songs are mainly acoustic based and simply arranged, but there are some that have been produced to provide a fuller, more contemporary sound. The mix of style works well and provides contrast across the 13 tracks. The pick of the disc is 'Magnolia Street', a track as good as anything that's come our way over the past few months.
