This disc was the real surprise of the latest batch of releases – it’s album that knocks you out with its melodies, instrumentation and intelligence. The Seattle based duo share the vocal duties throughout the disc and they compliment each other well, their voices harmonizing well on many tracks. Musically, it’s traditional folk instrumentation, guitar, mandolin, violin etc but the style of the tracks varies from pop to trad folk ballads. It’s Dave’s lyrics and the ‘control’ the pair demonstrates on the disc that separates it from the pack. Where others would, Dave & Tracy leave things simple and let the listener enjoy the melodies and subtleties in each track. There are too many highlights to mention, but the first track ‘Happytown’, an infectious mystical tale, and the excellent ‘Cat-Eyed Willie’, a track that wouldn’t be out of place on a Dylan album stand out for particular attention. A truly excellent disc and a real find for those willing to try something new. "..Carter's imagination is mythic and expansive – savour the music.."
